So today I trundled down to the local oral surgeon to finally get my 4 wisdom teeth out. They weren’t causing pain but I hated them and was given the options:Get them out ASAP, get them out when they cause significant problems, wait until I get back to New Zealand hoping that they wouldn’t do the inevitable and cause trauma in exam week.
Obviously I went with the ASAP option. So at 0840 I arrived with Kate at the surgeons, filling out forms asking if I was prego, a drug addict etc. Just after 0900 they called me through to take a CT scan of my mouth so they can see how close the major nerve was to the roots. In the end they decided that mine weren’t close to the nerve which made feel fab!
On being taken to for my CT scan the lady complimented me on my fantastic hairstyle which gave me butterflies! After the scan I was shown to the surgery. After chatting about New Zealand and an old movie that was released in the 80’s, they starting injecting my arm full of drugs. They must have injected 3 or so different drugs before they went for sedative. The kind surgeon told me I “would feel extremely happy in a few seconds once the valium started circulating”. The last thing I remember was saying “ooohhh, my arm feels happy!” Then I was out for what might have felt like a few seconds.
I awoke in a room with Kate sitting across from me in the recovery room. I remember being in the room but not of anything that happened in the room. Ask me to describe the room and all I could say is that it was small and there were chairs on both sides. Otherwise my memory is blank. I don’t remember insisting on having a photo taken but credit where credit’s due, Kate was happy to snap a picture of me in a drug induced state. Like I said, no memory aside from not being able to find my driver

I was kindly driven home by Shannen. Again I don’t recall the short drive home. Apparantly I was making ‘funny noises’, not oh dear is he okay ‘funny’ noises, I’m told they were hahahaha, sucks to be him ‘funny’ noises. I’m glad I can entertain even when I’m not there mentally.
I was told my drugs will make me drowsy, nauseous, and just overall screw with my body. I was actually looking forward to a good sleep when I got back, unfortunately the pills gave no no side effects what-so-ever so I am wide awake and fully alert. Hopefully once the local anesthetic wears off they remove the pain and discomfort. Time will tell.
But to those pondering if they should get their wisdom teeth out, if you have a spare wad of cash hanging about then I fully recommend it!
